Albert Newton Tilly d 4 February 1898

Albert N Tilly was born 18 August 1859, in Taylorville, TN, the second of two children of John C and Elizabeth (Johnson) Tilly.  He was listed in the 1860 census with his parents and older sister Mary, at Taylorsville.  Albert’s mother died about 1860 or 1861, and John married Fannie Speer.

In 1864, Albert’s father John was killed by marauders during the Civil War. John had come home to visit Fannie, as one of their twin sons was ill.  John was shot down in front of his family.  One of the twins, William, also died soon after.  With both of his parents dead, Albert and his sister Mary became the legal wards of Louisa Bradfute.  In 1870, they were living with her in Taylorsville.   I have not found that they were related to Louisa, but they may have been.

By 1880, Albert was living in the Richard Donnely family working as a laborer, in District 2, Johnson County.

Albert went west to Oregon, and lived in Crook County.  He was listed in the Assessment records by 1895.  Albert Tilly was a sheep rancher.  He died in 1898 in Waldron, Wheeler, OR.  He left part of his estate to Albert Tilly Oaks, (son of James Oaks) and to the orphan’s home in Portland. Perhaps being an orphan himself, he empathized with others in that situation.  He apparently had been in contact with his half brother, John H. Tilly, who corresponded with Mary Tilly  Adams after her brother died.

Albert is buried in the Mitchell Cemetery.  He is listed in Find A Grave.
