Annie Maria Taylor born 21 July 1878

Annie Maria Taylor was born 21 July, 1878, in Nova Scotia, the fourth child of Joseph A Taylor and Mariah Adelia Hodges.  The family was counted in the 1881 census in Maitland, in Annapolis County, NS, and Joseph was a farmer.  Annie’s next older sister, Ruth, was born in Maitland, so it is likely that Annie was born there as well.

By 1891, Annie’s family had moved up to Millville in Kings County.  The family was Methodist.  Her sister Lena had married, but her brother James “Abner” and  sister Ruth were still at home.

On 22 August 1894, Annie married Walter Thomas Charlton in Factorydale.  He was the son of Solomon Charlton and Mary Delong.  In 1901, Annie and Walter lived in Greenwood, with their son LeRoy Thomas Charlton, who was born in 1895.  In 1911, the family lived in Millville, and daughter Goldie, born in 1905, was now in the family.

The family apparently moved west.  Annie died in Vancouver BC on 22 August 1913.  She was only 35, and the index does not list a cause of death.  Walter and the children moved back to Aylesford.  In 1915, Walter enlisted and served in World War 1.  Annie’s son LeRoy also enlisted and served overseas.  Walter died on 9 July 1917 in Vimy, and LeRoy died 30 October 1917 in Flanders.

Annie’s daughter Goldie married, had two daughters, and lived to age 102.
